Chris G_TNI thought it seemed appropriate that I did a Red Carpet Killer Outfits post because of all the red carpet events around this time of the year. Below, I choose my favourite 5 from 2014.

RC 1

Model, Cara Delevingne looks totally stunning in this metallic dress at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. I think glittery dresses are sooo popular at these award shows because the dress takes on a whole new look depending on where they are! If they’re on the carpet, it’ll have a reflective red sheer. If they’re sitting down in a brown theater, it’ll have a brown hue to it. The possibilities are absolutely endless with this incredible dress.

RC 2

Singer, Taylor Swift rocks an incredible pairing of a low-cut crop top, and a high-rise skirt with a slit up the side at the ACM Awards. The cut shows off her rocking legs and toned tummy. She looks great in an easy white on black outfit, and her signature red lip adds a little pop to her otherwise bland outfit. She’s also killing beach waves which accentuates her very pretty doll-like face.

RC 3

Singer, Rita Ora is also wearing a silver dress. This one has the unique cut – off the shoulder, one long-sleeve, one no-sleeve, ankle long maxi. Her stylist clearly knows what (s)he is doing because the smoky eye adds a bad girl look. I don’t totally agree with the braided updo, quiff style because it makes her look a little boyish. However, her tanned skin totally stands out in the mi, and I love it. Blond, tanned, and glittery. Nothing wrong with that!

RC 4

Actress Jessica Alba wears an incredible haute-couture gold shimmery dress to the 2014 ESPY Awards. The dress cuts right around the knee, and the shoulders remind me of something that would be worn by a Tribute in ‘The Hunger Games’. I think the thing that is wrong with this outfit is the lip. The colour is too light, and should’ve been a plum, or even a black? It’s a little risky, but I think it would work out in the end.

RC 5

Finally, last but not least is the glamorous Katy Perry at the Grammy Awards. This dress is totally AH-MAY-ZING!!!!!! It starts out like any regular dress, but as it goes down, music notes are added to this flowy number. I cannot get enough of this dress! I wish it was socially acceptable to wear a red carpet dress multiple times because this would never get old. This dress is fun and whimsical! It’s totally dreamy.

Chris G_TNChris Glabb from Christopher’s Fashions interviews incredible fashion blogger, Caroline Topperman from www.styleontheside.com

caroline toppermanCaroline Topperman is a Canadian fashion and beauty blogger who is currently living in Poland, obsessively discovering the most beautiful bags, shoes, jjewelleryand makeup the world has to offer through a journey of striking textures, fabrics and colours:

I have always loved writing and I decided to pursue this passion by earning a Fine Arts degree in screen-writing. One of the screenplays which I edited won award at Barcelona, New York and Vancouver film festivals. As a teenager, I learned photography on my father’s old Rolleiflex. Since then I have upgraded to a Nikon DSLR, but analog film will always be my first love. The arts in general have always been near and dear to my heart and I also spent many years training in dance, which included performing at a professional level.

I speak English, Polish and French fluently. I have traveled extensively through Europe and have great familiarity with its many different cultures, architecture, arts and design.  From Morocco to Poland and everywhere in between, I discovered how much fun accessories can be and since then they have played a large role in my life. I then put theory into practice by managing and designing storefronts for a boutique bags and accessories store in a prestigious Toronto shopping district.

Chris: Who is your fashion inspiration? When did you discover them? And how?

Caroline: My fashion inspirations have come into my life at different stages. They first began at home with my mom and my grandmother. They were both strong women who loved beautiful clothes. My classic inspirations would be Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn. If we are looking for modern day fashion icons, I’m a huge fan of Rachel Zoe not only because I love what she wears but also because I love that she’s built an empire around it.

Chris: I envy that you had fashion icons as a kid, because growing up, I didn’t really know what fashion, style or trends were. I was that kid who wore a blue t-shirt on plaid, green shorts… Not good! Not to mention that nobody in my family was really a “style” person back then. My mom is a black shirt, and jeans kinda gal, and the rest of my fam: the same.

Chris: What inspired you to create your own website?

Caroline: Good question. I’ve always loved writing (I have a degree in screenwriting) and I’ve always loved the idea of putting images to my words. In addition, after years of personal training people, I got used giving advice and helping others. So it seemed like a natural progression to start my own site.

Chris: -This, is sooo inspiring! And the perfect reason to start a blog! I mean, why not share your thoughts with the world, and get a few fans out of the deal? Also, you CLEARLY have some killer talent, so why the heck not?-

Stylelogo11

Chris: What is your most causal daily go-to outfit?

Caroline: I work from home so I (sadly) don’t usually dress up. My go-to outfit are skinny jeans and a comfy tee.

Chris:-Why not? I mean, work and be comfortable too? It’s a win-win situation!-

Chris: Which fashion magazine is your favourite?

Caroline: InStyle and Vogue are the first to come to mind but now that I’m living in Poland I’ve come to really enjoy reading Polish Elle.

Chris: -I just Googled Polish Elle Magazine, and they are soo trendy! Why is Europe so ahead of the fashion industry than North America?-

Chris: What are the differences in fashion trends between Canada and Poland?

Caroline: I could probably write a whole essay on this topic! Let’s start with Vancouver (where I lived for 13 years) and Warsaw. Whereas Vancouver is workout wear and very casual, Warsaw is a lot more dressed up.

Toronto (where I grew up) is more sophisticated. They get a lot of their style influence from New York. Warsaw, where I’m currently living, has pretty much all the same big chain stores as North America. For example, I just recently bought jeans from American Apparel.

Chris: -Toronto is literally an hour away from where I live! I’d love to spend all my time there! And, I had noo idea anywhere outside The States and Canada had American Apparel! They’re literally my go-to for pants! (Not to mention how she looks so perfect standing there in my American Apparel underwear!)-

Chris: Which is more classy: an all-white outfit or an all-black outfit? And why?

Caroline: I think it depends on the event and the outfit, but if pressed then I’m going to say all white. The way I see it is that all white is more unexpected than black and you always want to standout.

Chris: -I’m thinking you should talk to Ellen DeGeneres… Did you see her People’s Choice Outfit? I think she has more swag than Justin Bieber. I see all white becoming a huge trend in 2015. You just wait.-

Chris: -So that’s it! I’d like to give a huge thanks to Caroline for this interview and Marianne for setting this up!

Chris G-BTN#THENATURALHIGHPROJECT

Recently, on my personal blog, I’ve been working with an organization called The Natural High Project.

I’m doing a campaign January 1st through January 5th and you can read all that fun stuff on my blog.

I’m 100% sure that most of my readers aren’t going to know that this is because, although it is world wide, it’s not well known.

So, my first act would be to pose this question…

The natural high project

Natural High is a way to get your blood boiling and adrenaline rushing without the use of drugs or alcohol. These include doing your fave things whether that’s a day out with friends, or just an hour playing a sport!

A natural high is one of the most important things to find, and quickly, because as every teenager knows, your teen years are stressful!

Take the pledge to live drug free, watch videos, and read other blogs (and not to mention vlogs) on their website!

The Natural 2

Stay tuned to my blog, www.christophersfashion.com  for my 5 day challenge, and links to other AMAZING Natural High Bloggers!

One of my most frequently asked questions is… should accessories really match? I find this question so intriguing because it was a question I really had to ask myself before answering. I decided the best way to do it was to Google some outfits, look at my faves, and finally decide for good if they should really match? While searching through photos (all rights reserved to the original owners, I chose the photos for content, and do not own any of them)

Finally, I got my answer.

COC2_a

COC2_b

In these outfits, the accessories don’t totally match each other, but they match and add to the outfits!

Another example is this one.

COC2_c

The gold colours in these three rings do not match. One is a rose gold, another regular gold, and the last a white gold (or possibly silver). And yet, I love these rings! They’d go great with a black leather bracelet, like this one.

COC2_d

Which is yet another example of why accessories do not have to match.

But here is an example I love, where the accessories do match!

COC2_e

And, I love it just as much as the first 2!

Now, the question was ‘should the accessories match? ‘. I’m sorry to everyone who asks this, but this is my final answer…

I think that accessories shouldn’t match… And I also think they should!

Your style is something you create. Something only you can change. If you like your accessories matching, match them. If not, then so be it.

Just remember, accessories are used to add to an outfit, and they’re not the whole outfit themselves… They can’t be.

Join the conversation! What do you think? Should accessories match each other? Should they not? Your opinion matters! Leave a comment below telling me what you think!

Chris K_TNChris Kneipp reviews the 2013 TV series, Sleepy Hollow.

sleepy-hollow-TV-trailerSomething dark is rising in Sleepy Hollow and it’s going to keep you glued to your TV screen. This paranormal/police series from the Fox network has just finished its first season run and the second season is slated for release later this year. While perhaps not for everyone, I thought it was a wonderful retelling of the old story, though it has more in common with a series like Supernatural than it does with the original tale by Washington Irvine.

The show tells the tale of Ichabod Crane (played by Tom Mison), a soldier in the American Civil War. The first episode opens on the battlefield, where Ichabod shoots an axe-wielding mercenary who shakes off the bullet and keeps coming. Our hero is mortally wounded, but manages to behead his killer before dying. Now that could have been the shortest TV series of all time, but for the intervention of his wife Katrina (Katia Winter), a witch. Fast forward a few centuries and Ichabod awakens in a cave on the outskirts of the town Sleepy Hollow, New York, very much alive. As you can imagine, claiming you are from the 1700s is going to get you committed, but when a string of people are beheaded with an axe, one person believes him: Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie), a police lieutenant haunted by her own childhood supernatural experience. Together, Crane and Mills uncover a terrifying plot to bring about the end of the world.

sleepyhollow1The show’s creators do a great job mixing the drama with occasional light comedy, and the cast of characters, both good and evil, do a great job bringing the story to life. I haven’t seen Tom Mison or Nicole Beharie in anything before, and if this is any indication of their talent then I’m looking forward to seeing them in other roles in the future. Mison plays the stiff but likable hero convincingly, though I do find myself wondering why he is always in the same clothes he was wearing when he crawled out of the cave (Eww!). Nicole Beharie also lends much to the success of the show and it’s nice to see a female lead who doesn’t need to dress in black leather and high heels to kick ass.

The supporting characters in Sleepy Hollow are well-played and it was interesting to see Orlando Jones (Mad TV) and John Cho (Harold and Kumar) step away from comedy and into dramatic roles. Lyndie Greenwood plays Abbie’s troubled sister Jenny and brings another great tough-girl character to life.

As all good series do, Sleepy Hollow’s season finale frustratingly ends with a killer cliff-hanger (no spoilers) and the show’s ratings suggest that there’ll be plenty of people glued to their TVs when season two comes out later this year. No release date has been announced, though Fox has confirmed they are shooting it now.

Guess we’ll all just have to be patient until then.
