“Multi-faceted author Marianne de Pierres will bring her blend of fantasy, humour and crime writing talents to a series of talks at Moreton Bay Region Libraries later this month.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Lifestyle and Amenities spokesperson, Cr David Dwyer, said the popular author had just released her first novel for young adults, Burn Bright –  which delves into the world of glamour and the darker aspects of teenage anxiety.

“Marianne de Pierres has a strong and dedicated following and her talks from the author’s perspective are always riveting,” Cr Dwyer said.

“It’s your chance explore the world and influences of a well regarded author in the comfort of a local Moreton Bay region library.”

Marianne de Pierres’ previous works include the multi-award-nominated Parrish Plessis and Sentients of the Orion series as well as the Tara Sharp humorous crime series written under a pseudonym, Marianne Delacourt.

Bookings are recommended and can be made through individual libraries.

I’ve just got back from a mini book tour and met some lovely people. Many thanks to the librarians, students and teachers at Birrong SHS, Ascham, PLC Croyden, Swansea, Moorebank, Callaghan, Hunter SPA and Blacktown (and one other, I know I missed someone!). You were very welcoming!

Galaxy Books signing was like dropping in on a bunch of friends, and Kinokuniya staff and Random House staff were fantastic at the Kinokuniya signing. Apologies to my peeps (especially Margo Lanagan) who I barely got to see or, if I did, barely got to speak to. You were very understanding!

Sending hugs out to Yunyu (and thanks to Lee) who wrestled heavy speakers in and out of each location. We managed to fit in a lot of giggling anyway.

We’re all really excited to see the Burn Bright ads on the Dolly website. There’s one in the very top header and one in the right hand sidebar. They’ll only be up for a couple of weeks, so make sure you call by and have a look. Click on the trailer link, so they know you’ve been.

Darkly sensuous and crackling with menace ….

Marianne’s been talking to some excellent bloggers. You can read her interviews at:

Tales of the Inner Book Fanatic

Alpha Reader Blogspot

And there’s currently a Burn Bright giveaway going on at King Rolen’s Kin

Marianne was interviewed by The Courier Mail newspaper.

To add to these are some fab reviews:

“Burn Bright is a decidedly dark and decadent story of a utopian paradise layered over a richly delicate and dangerous world of secrets, pirates and dark creatures. A provocative and intoxicating story of a girl breaking through the naivety of childhood and entering the seductive world of adulthood, a world filled with ***, drugs, music and of cause night creatures. An Enthralling read that questions societies morals and individuals actions wrapped in a beguiling cover.” Larissa Book Girl

“Burn Bright is an epic and mystifying new novel from Australian writer, Marianne de Pierres. The novel is a cross between ‘Logan’s Run’, ‘Lord of the Flies’ and ‘The Beach’ with a healthy dose of sci-fi steampunk thrown in for good measure. It is incredible, and should most certainly be appearing on everyone’s ‘Must Read’ list for 2011!” Read the rest of ALPHA Reader’s review here.

‘Burn Bright introduces one of the most exciting worlds I’ve encountered since Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies series, or Isobelle Carmody’s Obernewtyn, and it will surely appeal to fans of both. Ixion is such an easy place to get lost in, helped along by strange, wonderful characters and Marianne de Pierres’s lush writing, which at times feels like you’re floating through a dark dream. This is the first YA book from the Australian author, who has previously written crime under the name Marianne Delacourt, and I for one feel so lucky she’s ventured into this genre because Burn Bright really is a book that takes your breath away.’ Holly Harper – Readings Books.

‘This is a truly stunning book. Burn Bright treats the Young Adult reader with respect, does not over-explain trivial matters and moves at break-neck pace. It is provocative and dangerous, and de Pierres does not shy from difficult subjects such as drugs and sex. The writing style is clear, concise and beautiful.’ Book Lovers Club.

‘Easily one of the best YA books that I’ve read this year. I loved it! … this kind of dystopian setting blew me away. Marianne de Pierres is one creative author!’ The Small Town Blog.

And we’re pleased to say we’ve added the new bookmark images to the Extras page. But here they are anyway.

Thank you all for your many emails asking when Burn Bright will be available in your local bookstore or on Amazon. At the moment, you can only buy it in Australia and New Zealand. However, we hope to sell it other places in the world over the coming months. If you would like to be able to buy the books wherever you are, then may I suggest you blog about that desire, and mention it on FB and Twitter and all your social networks. That will help a great deal!

I can tell you though, that it will be published in Turkey in early 2012! Woohoo for our first international translation!

The other good news is that Yunyu’s song, Angel Arias is now available all around the world.
